VerdantVale Farms is hiring a Horticulture Operations Specialist to support our sustainable urban farming initiatives in Portland, Oregon. This role combines field operations, crop management, and process improvements to ensure high quality produce and efficient operation.
In this role you will collaborate with agronomists, irrigation technicians, and product teams to implement best practices, monitor plant health, and optimize resource use. This is an ideal position for professionals who enjoy hands on horticulture and data driven decision making.
Responsibility
- Implement and monitor crop production plans across multiple greenhouses
- Maintain and calibrate irrigation and climate control systems
- Monitor pest and disease pressures and apply integrated pest management
- Collect and analyze cultivation data to drive improvements
- Collaborate with harvest and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and food safety standards
- Mentor and train junior horticulture staff on standard operating procedures
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field, or 3+ years of hands-on greenhouse experience
- 2+ years of experience in greenhouse or production horticulture
- Strong knowledge of Integrated Pest Management, nutrient management, irrigation and climate control
- Proficient in data collection and analysis using Excel/Google Sheets; experience with farm management software is a plus
- Ability to work in greenhouse environments, perform physical tasks, and lift up to 40 lbs
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; customer focus and problem-solving mindset
- Valid work authorization in the United States and a valid driver's license
