We are seeking a Lead Product Packaging Engineer to design and optimize packaging solutions from concept to production for a portfolio of consumer goods. This role blends materials science, packaging mechanics, and lifecycle assessment to deliver safe, attractive, and cost-efficient packaging that protects products and delights customers.
As a key contributor on the packaging team, you will translate brand strategy into practical packaging concepts, validate performance through testing, and steward projects from brief to launch. You will collaborate with R&D, engineering, procurement, and operations to deliver scalable packaging solutions that meet quality, cost, and sustainability targets.
What you will do: lead development of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging, optimize material usage, and drive design-for-manufacturing improvements. You will own packaging specifications, BOMs, and supplier engagement while ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management. Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end design of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging using CAD tools and rapid prototyping
- Collaborate with R&D, marketing, supply chain, and manufacturing to deliver scalable packaging solutions
- Conduct material and package performance testing; ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
- Develop packaging specifications, BOMs, cost models, and drive cost-down initiatives
- Manage supplier relationships, RFQs, quality audits, and QA for packaging components
- Champion sustainability goals including recyclability, recycled content, and carbon footprint reduction
- Transfer packaging designs to production with robust validation plans and change control
- Mentor junior packaging engineers and contribute to a culture of innovation
Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of packaging design and development experience in consumer goods
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo) and packaging software; 3D modeling and simulation experience
- Hands-on testing experience with ISTA, ASTM, ISO standards; knowledge of DfX and DOE methods
- Strong project management, cross-functional collaboration, and communication skills
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, recyclability, PCR, and material selection
- Experience with supplier management, RFQs, and quality assurance processes
- Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication
