Join NexaPack Innovations as a Senior Product Packaging Engineer and lead end to end packaging development for our diverse consumer goods portfolio. This is a premium role that blends packaging design, engineering rigor, sustainability, and cross functional leadership to deliver packaging that protects product quality while optimizing cost and environmental impact.

Based in Chicago, IL, you will own the packaging strategy from concept through production transfer, collaborating with R&D, sourcing, design, and manufacturing teams. You will mentor junior engineers and help shape the next generation of packaging solutions that delight customers and drive growth.

Responsibility

  • Lead end to end packaging development from concept to production transfer for consumer goods.
  • Collaborate with R&D, design, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to align on material choices, performance, and cost targets.
  • Perform feasibility studies, cost optimization, and sustainability assessments to minimize environmental impact.
  • Create and maintain packaging BOMs, specifications, and validation protocols; manage change control.
  • Evaluate materials and suppliers; conduct tests including drop, compression, barrier, and endurance tests; drive supplier qualification.
  • Ensure packaging compliance with labeling, regulatory, and safety requirements across markets.
  • Manage project timelines, risks, and cross functional communication to meet launch milestones.
  • Support manufacturing scale up and technology transfer, mentoring junior team members.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of packaging engineering experience in consumer goods or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (paperboard, plastics, corrugates) and packing systems; experience with Esko Studio, ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
  • Proven experience with sustainability initiatives and recyclability improvements; familiarity with ISTA and related packaging standards.
  • Excellent project management and cross functional leadership; ability to influence without authority.
  • Data driven decision making, BOM management, and cost optimization skills; experience with DOE and DFMEA preferred.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and presentation skills; ability to collaborate across global teams.
