We are seeking a proactive Museum Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of daily operations, ensuring an exemplary visitor experience while safeguarding collections and resources.
In this pivotal role, you will partner with curators, educators, volunteers, and governance to advance our mission, manage budgets, and lead a small team in a fast-paced, visitor-focused environment.
What you’ll do: Lead operational excellence, safety, and facilities management; steward collections care and records; develop and monitor budgets; oversee visitor services, education programs, and community outreach; drive fundraising efforts and grant reporting; coordinate exhibitions and program calendars; and cultivate strong partnerships with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. Responsibility
- Oversee daily museum operations, facilities, security, safety, and housekeeping, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for visitors.
- Manage collections workflows, recordskeeping, storage, and digitization in collaboration with the curatorial team.
- Develop and monitor annual operating budget, procurement, and financial controls; oversee fundraising initiatives and grant reporting.
- Lead visitor services, education programs, member services, and community engagement to grow audience and impact.
- Plan, coordinate, and install exhibitions and programs; manage calendars and vendor relationships.
- Supervise, train, and motivate staff and volunteers; implement performance metrics and succession planning.
- Partner with the governance board and external partners to support strategic initiatives and organizational growth.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Art Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years in museum operations, administration, or nonprofit leadership; proven track record in budgeting and program management.
- Strong financial management, grant writing, fundraising, donor relations, and reporting skills.
- Experience with collections management systems and digital archives; familiarity with conservation and preservation best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management; ability to collaborate across departments and with volunteers.
- Knowledge of safety, security, and regulatory compliance; risk management experience.
- Flexible schedule and ability to work evenings/weekends for events; ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
