Join Apex Packaging Solutions, a leader in innovative packaging for consumer goods. We design, test, and deliver sustainable packaging that protects products while reducing environmental impact. We are seeking a hands-on Packaging Engineer to drive packaging performance, cost savings, and regulatory compliance across our product portfolio.
In this role, you will partner with R&D, Sourcing, and Operations to develop and validate packaging concepts that meet functional, aesthetic, and sustainability goals. You will influence supplier choices, lead testing programs, and translate complex requirements into scalable packaging solutions.
Responsibility
- Lead the design, testing, and qualification of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging for assigned products.
- Develop packaging specifications, BOMs, and standard operating procedures with cross-functional teams.
- Perform performance testing (drop, vibration, compression, permeability) and validate results against requirements.
- Conduct cost-of-packaging analyses and drive cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality.
- Coordinate with suppliers for materials, prototypes, and pilot runs; manage supplier change requests.
- Ensure compliance with GMP, ISO, and internal quality systems; maintain design history files.
- Support packaging scale-up, process improvements, and transfer to manufacturing facilities.
- Lead sustainability initiatives, including recyclability, use of PCR materials, and packaging waste reduction.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of packaging design/engineering experience within consumer goods or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials, printing, converting, and coating technologies.
- Experience with carton and secondary packaging design; knowledge of sterile packaging is a plus.
- Proficiency with packaging testing methods (burst, drop, compression, permeability) and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab).
- Familiarity with GMP/ISO 9001 and quality management systems; CAD/PLM software experience (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX) is a plus.
- Excellent project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Willingness to travel 10-20% as needed.
