This role blends engineering, supplier collaboration, and project leadership to deliver compliant, cost-effective packaging that protects product integrity and reduces environmental impact.
As a Packaging Engineer, you will oversee the entire lifecycle of packaging concepts from concept to production. You will partner with R&D, manufacturing, supply chain, and suppliers to deliver robust packaging that meets performance, cost, and sustainability targets.
Responsibility
- Lead packaging concept development from ideation to pilot runs and scale-up, ensuring feasibility for high-volume production.
- Own packaging BOMs, specs, and documentation in PLM/SAP, maintaining accuracy across all lifecycle stages.
- Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing to validate performance, shelf-life, and regulatory compliance (GMP, safety, labeling).
- Manage supplier relationships, evaluate new materials, and negotiate cost-effective sourcing for packaging components.
- Conduct cost modeling, design for manufacturability, and value engineering to reduce total packaging costs.
- Drive sustainability initiatives, recyclability targets, and use of recycled content where feasible.
- Coordinate validation testing (drop, vibration, environmental) and secure QA sign-off for production readiness.
- Lead cross-functional projects with clear milestones, risk management, and documentation to ensure on-time delivery.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of packaging engineering or development experience in consumer goods or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials (board, films, closures) and their performance characteristics.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and PLM/SAP for BOM management.
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Familiarity with GMP, regulatory guidelines, and sustainability standards (REACH, RoHS, recyclability).
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities, with a data-driven mindset.
