Golden Crust Bakery Co. is a premium, artful bakery in San Francisco, renowned for handmade sourdough, croissants and modern pastries. We're seeking a talented Pastry Chef / Baker to lead our baking team and elevate daily production.
In this full-time role, you will craft a diverse range of baked goods, oversee production schedules, and mentor a growing team of bakers and pastry assistants.
Responsibility
- Lead daily production of breads, pastries, and specialty items with consistency and exceptional quality.
- Plan and manage fermentation, proofing, shaping, and baking processes to maximize yield and flavor.
- Develop and execute seasonal menus and product innovations while controlling costs and waste.
- Train, supervise, and schedule bakery staff; foster a collaborative, safe, and high-performance environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and HACCP practices across all shifts.
- Collaborate with the head chef and store managers on quality, presentation, and guest satisfaction.
- Oversee inventory management, vendor relations, and ingredient ordering to maintain consistent stock levels.
Qualification
- 3+ years as a pastry chef or bakery lead with mastery of breads and viennoiserie (croissants, Danish, brioche) and rustic sourdoughs.
- Proficiency with industrial mixers, ovens, proofers, sheeters, scales, and bakery equipment.
- Formal training in pastry arts or culinary school; equivalent industry experience considered.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills; ability to mentor junior bakers.
- Willingness to work early morning hours and weekends; physical stamina for standing and lifting.
- Solid knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and HACCP; ServSafe certification is a plus.
- Creative mindset with the ability to develop new recipes, flavors, and cost-conscious production.
