This is a hands on role for a driven Product Packaging Engineer who thrives at the intersection of design, materials science, and manufacturing.
Based in Chicago, IL, you will lead the development of packaging concepts from concept through validation, specifications, and transition to high volume production.

Responsibility
- Lead packaging concept development from ideation to validated design ready for tooling
- Collaborate with R D, Product, and Manufacturing teams to ensure DFx alignment
- Define material specifications, structural design, and performance criteria
- Balance aesthetics, protection, cost, and sustainability in packaging solutions
- Source and manage supplier relationships for materials and conversion partners
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and ISTA compliance to validate performance
- Create and maintain BOMs, specs, and documentation for handoff to production
- Drive packaging sustainability initiatives and optimize for recyclability and carbon footprint
Qualification
- BS or MS in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
- 5+ years in packaging design and development for consumer goods
- Strong knowledge of packaging materials (corrugated, films, rigid plastics)
- Proficiency with CAD and packaging tools such as ArtiosCAD or SolidWorks
- Experience with DFx, prototyping, testing, and ISTA standards
- Excellent cross functional collaboration and project management skills
- Strong communication and vendor management abilities
