Job description
Join a premier archaeology project in Athens, combining field surveys, excavations, and multidisciplinary artifact analysis. You will lead documentation, sampling strategies, and community outreach while ensuring rigorous methodological standards. This is a field heavy role with on site experience and collaboration with museums and universities.
As part of a dynamic research team, you will design excavation strategies, supervise field operations, and contribute to reports, publications, and grant deliverables. The role offers hands-on fieldwork in Attica with opportunities for international collaboration.
Responsibility
- Lead field surveys and excavation operations at archaeological sites around Athens and Attica.
- Supervise field teams, interpret stratigraphy, and ensure safety and data quality.
- Develop and implement sampling plans, recording protocols, and artifact documentation.
- Oversee artifact conservation prep, cataloging, and laboratory processing.
- Coordinate with museums, universities, and local authorities for permits and collaboration.
- Produce timely progress reports, data management plans, and grant deliverables.
- Present findings at conferences and contribute to scholarly publications.
- Collaborate with GIS specialists for site mapping and spatial analysis.
Qualification
- Master or PhD in Archaeology or related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field archaeology experience with demonstrated leadership on excavations.
- Strong knowledge of excavation methods, recording, stratigraphy, and sampling.
- Proficiency with GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS), photogrammetry, and database management.
- Experience with artifact conservation prep and lab workflows, including cataloging.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Greek language skills are a plus.
- Ability to travel to sites around Attica, valid driver's license, and field safety training completion.
