Responsibility
- Lead field crews during archaeological surveys and excavations, ensuring adherence to methodologies and safety standards.
- Plan and implement field strategies, including stratigraphic recording, documentation, and artifact recovery protocols.
- Ensure compliance with permits, safety regulations, ethical guidelines, and data integrity requirements.
- Maintain meticulous field notes, GIS data, and photographic documentation; manage on-site data backups.
- Coordinate with project managers, site directors, museums, and academic partners to align objectives and timelines.
- Prepare preliminary site reports and contribute to final project reports, including site interpretation and contextual analysis.
- Mentor interns and volunteers, delivering training on excavation techniques, recording standards, and safety practices.
Qualification
- B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field; equivalent field experience considered.
- 3+ years of professional field archaeology experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in field techniques (troweling, shovel testing, surface survey) and site documentation practices.
- Experience with artifact cataloging, stratigraphic recording, and data management software.
- Strong knowledge of New England archaeological cultures and regulatory frameworks; willingness to travel and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to contribute to technical reports and public outreach materials.
- Valid driver's license; willingness to work long field days and occasional weekend shifts.
