Job description
NovaSpectra Research Institute is seeking a Senior Experimental Physicist to join our Cambridge, MA team to advance quantum materials research at the forefront of low-temperature physics.
You will design, implement, and optimize experiments probing novel superconducting states and nanoscale devices, collaborate with engineers and data scientists, and help translate discoveries into impactful publications and patents.
We offer a competitive compensation package, comprehensive benefits, relocation support, and access to state-of-the-art cryogenics, spectroscopic tools, and cleanroom facilities.
Responsibility
- Lead design and execution of quantum materials experiments at cryogenic temperatures to test hypotheses and observe emergent phenomena.
- Develop, assemble, and maintain experimental apparatus including cryogenic systems, measurement electronics, and vacuum infrastructure.
- Analyze experimental data using Python, MATLAB, and specialized physics software; apply robust statistical methods to extract results.
- Collaborate with theorists and engineers to interpret results and iterate experimental designs.
- Prepare internal and external presentations, manuscripts, and conference submissions to disseminate findings.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and procedural standards; document procedures and calibrations meticulously.
- Mentor junior researchers, supervise experiments, and contribute to grant proposals and project planning.
Qualification
- PhD in Physics or a closely related field; or MS with substantial postdoctoral/industrial research experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experimental physics experience in cryogenic low-temperature labs or quantum materials facilities.
- Deep knowledge of superconductivity, quantum materials, nanofabrication, and spectroscopy techniques.
- Proficiency with data analysis and programming in Python, MATLAB; experience with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or similar control environments.
- Strong publication record and proven ability to communicate complex results to diverse audiences.
- Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and project-management skills; ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship, or have sponsorship in place where applicable.
