We are seeking a seasoned Senior Fisheries Data Analyst to join the Portland Marine Research Institute. Responsibility
- Lead fisheries stock assessments and data modeling to inform sustainable harvest strategies.
- Collaborate with state and federal agencies including NOAA Fisheries and Maine Department of Marine Resources on monitoring programs.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines, quality assurance processes, and reproducible analyses in R and Python.
- Create interactive dashboards and visualizations for policymakers and stakeholders.
- Plan and oversee field data collection, sampling design, and survey coordination.
- Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and grant proposals; contribute to scientific publications.
- Mentor junior analysts and manage project timelines, deliverables, and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related field; PhD a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in fisheries data analysis, stock assessment, or ecological modeling.
- Proficiency in R and Python; experience with SQL and data visualization tools.
- Strong GIS experience (ArcGIS or QGIS) and spatial analysis skills.
- Solid understanding of stock assessment frameworks and statistical methodologies used in fisheries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex results to diverse audiences.
- Fieldwork experience and willingness to travel for sampling and stakeholder engagement.
- Team player with project management skills and a track record of delivering high-quality work.
