Responsibility
- Lead and design field surveys, stock assessments, and ecosystem monitoring programs in coastal and offshore environments.
- Analyze biological data using R, Python, and GIS tools to support stock status, recruitment, and habitat assessments.
- Develop and communicate science-based recommendations to management bodies and stakeholders.
- Coordinate multi-agency collaborations, including fisheries managers, researchers, and communities.
- Prepare peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and policy briefs demonstrating impact and uncertainty.
- Mentor junior scientists and technicians; oversee data quality control and project timelines.
- Represent the organization at conferences, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
- Support grant writing and project budgeting to secure funding for ongoing research.
Qualification
- Master's degree (or PhD preferred) in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related field.
- 5+ years of practical experience in fisheries research, stock assessments, or resource management.
- Proficiency in statistics and programming (R, Python); experience with GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of ecosystem-based management, policy processes, and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to translate science for non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading teams, coordinating fieldwork, and managing budgets and timelines.
- Ability to work in Marine environments and travel for fieldwork as needed.
- Legal ability to work in Canada and a valid driver's license; willingness to obtain necessary certifications.
