Northstar Interactive is a premium game studio crafting immersive experiences for PC and consoles. We are seeking a Senior Gameplay Engineer to architect and ship core gameplay systems for our next IP in a fast-growing team based in Seattle.
As a pivotal member of the engineering squad, you'll collaborate with designers, artists, and technical leaders to deliver responsive, performant gameplay across platforms. You'll influence system design, mentor teammates, and contribute to a culture of excellence, iteration, and quality.
What you'll do includes building robust gameplay frameworks, implementing features from prototypes to shipped content, optimizing for latency, frame rate, and memory, and shaping gameplay feel through tuning and feedback loops. Responsibility
- Design, implement, and maintain core gameplay systems and features across platforms (PC/console).
- Collaborate with designers, artists, and other engineers to shape gameplay feel and player experience.
- Optimize performance, memory usage, and load times through profiling and refactoring.
- Build robust tooling and pipelines to improve iteration speed for design and QA teams.
- Lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a healthy engineering culture.
- Implement gameplay scripting and AI behaviors using Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Collaborate on system design decisions and contribute to the game's technical roadmap.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of professional game development experience, with shipped titles preferred.
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or C# with hands-on experience in Unity or Unreal Engine.
- Solid understanding of 3D math, physics, animation, and rendering fundamentals.
- Experience with performance profiling, optimization, and memory management.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to mentor teammates.
- Familiarity with source control (Git) and modern development workflows.
- Passion for games and a data-driven approach to decision making.
