Job description

Greenleaf Nurseries & Landscape Co. is seeking a results-driven Senior Horticulturist to lead plant production, garden design collaboration, and sustainable cultivation practices in our Portland operations.

In this role, you will manage greenhouse propagation, oversee landscape installations, and mentor a growing team of horticulture professionals, ensuring premium plant quality and exceptional customer experiences.

Responsibility

  • Lead plant production planning across nursery and greenhouse facilities, including schedule development and quality controls.
  • Oversee propagation, pruning, grafting, and seasonally rotating stock to maximize health and yield.
  • Monitor crop health through scouting, diagnostic testing, and integrated pest management to minimize chemical inputs.
  • Design and maintain display gardens and customer landscapes in collaboration with the design team.
  • Manage irrigation and climate control systems; optimize water use and nutrient delivery.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor horticulture staff and seasonal workers; ensure safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with procurement, sales, and operations to ensure timely supply of premium plants and accurate product information.
  • Lead sustainability initiatives, including composting, recycling, and soil health programs.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Botany, Landscape Architecture, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 3-5+ years in horticulture, nursery production, greenhouse management, or landscape installation.
  • Deep knowledge of plant biology, soils, nutrition, pest/disease management, and sustainable practices.
  • Experience with greenhouse climate control systems, irrigation scheduling, and landscape software is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills; ability to mentor staff.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical outdoor tasks in varying weather; valid driver's license.
  • Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and customer service orientation.
