Verdant Pines Nursery is a premium grower of ornamentals and edible crops in the Pacific Northwest. We are seeking a hands-on Horticulturist to lead greenhouse operations, optimize plant health, and contribute to product development. As our Horticulturist and Greenhouse Operations Lead, you will oversee daily cultivation activities, ensure optimal environmental conditions, and mentor a small team of propagation technicians. Responsibility
- Oversee day-to-day greenhouse operations, including climate control, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, and pest management to ensure high-quality plant production.
- Develop and execute propagation schedules for annuals, perennials, and specialty crops, ensuring healthy rooted cuttings and timely potting.
- Monitor and analyze environmental data (temperature, humidity, CO2, light) and implement improvements using sensors and automation where appropriate.
- Collaborate with product development and sales teams to trial new cultivars and optimize crop yields for market demand.
- Train and mentor staff on horticultural best practices, safety, and quality standards; promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of inputs, crop progress, and yield data; generate reports to inform decisions and inventory planning.
- Ensure compliance with safety, pesticide, and environmental regulations; manage waste streams and sustainability initiatives.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of hands-on greenhouse or nursery experience with propagation, crop management, and pest control.
- Strong knowledge of integrated pest management, fertigation, soil-less media, and irrigation systems.
- Proficiency with data collection and basic analytics; experience with greenhouse automation and climate control systems is a plus.
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills; ability to lead a small team and work cross-functionally.
- Physical ability to perform hands-on cultivation tasks in a greenhouse environment; willingness to lift 40+ lbs and work standing for long periods.
- Commitment to sustainability and best practices in horticulture; valid driver’s license is preferred.
