Join Nimbus Climate Labs, a premium provider of advanced meteorological insights and climate analytics. We are seeking a Senior Meteorologist & Weather Data Scientist to lead forecasting initiatives, drive model development, and translate complex weather information into actionable insights for clients and internal teams.
In this role, you will collaborate with researchers, software engineers, and domain experts to deliver high-precision forecasts, climate risk assessments, and decision-support tools. The ideal candidate combines deep atmospheric science expertise with practical data-science skills and excellent communication abilities.
Responsibility
- Lead development and refinement of numerical weather prediction models and forecast products used for client deliverables and internal decision support.
- Design and execute experiments to improve forecast skill, calibration, and uncertainty quantification.
- Work with data engineers to ingest large meteorological datasets from satellites, radars, and models; ensure data quality and reproducibility.
- Build and deploy reproducible analysis pipelines using Python, MATLAB, or R; develop scalable visualization dashboards for stakeholders.
- Communicate forecast results and climate risk assessments clearly to non-technical clients and leadership.
- Mentor junior meteorologists and data scientists; contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally on product roadmaps, tool development, and client-facing forecasting services.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in HPC, version control, and code governance.
Qualification
- Master's degree (PhD preferred) in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in weather forecasting, numerical modeling, or climate analytics.
- Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, xarray), MATLAB, or R; experience with machine learning frameworks is a plus.
- Strong understanding of NWP models, data assimilation, and forecast verification methodologies.
- Experience with cloud computing and data storage (AWS or equivalent); ability to create scalable, reproducible workflows.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex findings into actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Proven track record of collaboration across research, software, and product teams.
- Eligibility to work in the United States; ability to obtain necessary clearances if required.
