Job description
Nimbus Analytics is seeking a Senior Meteorologist to lead the development and delivery of world-class weather insights for enterprise customers and government partners. You will shape forecasting futures, build robust models, and translate complex meteorological information into actionable guidance for product teams and clients.
In this role, you will combine deep domain knowledge with practical data engineering to deliver reliable forecasts, risk assessments, and decision-support tools that empower customers to plan with confidence in dynamic weather conditions.
Responsibility
- Lead development and refinement of forecast models, data assimilation pipelines, and ensemble prediction systems.
- Analyze meteorological data from Doppler radar, satellites, buoys, and numerical models to produce actionable weather insights.
- Collaborate with software engineers to deploy scalable, fault-tolerant weather prediction services in cloud and on-prem environments.
- Mentor junior meteorologists; develop training materials and best-practices for verification and quality control.
- Communicate weather risks and forecasts to internal teams and external clients through briefings, reports, and dashboards.
- Validate model outputs using verification metrics and backtesting; continuously improve forecasting skill scores.
- Contribute to research publications, grant proposals, and product roadmaps by translating findings into customer value.
Qualification
- Master's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a closely related field; PhD preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in operational meteorology, weather research, or equivalent roles.
- Strong knowledge of numerical weather prediction models (GFS, ECMWF, ICON) and data assimilation techniques.
- Proficiency with Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandas) and MATLAB or R; experience with WRF/WRF-Scripts and MET tools.
- Experience with high-performance computing, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and scalable data pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex results for non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven track record of collaboration in cross-functional teams and policy/industry engagement.
