Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution invites an experienced oceanographer to join our interdisciplinary team as a Senior Oceanographer specializing in data analysis and numerical modeling. The role combines field-based observations with advanced analytics to advance understanding of ocean processes and climate interactions. Based in Woods Hole, MA, you will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and educators to deliver impactful research and broad dissemination of results.

Responsibility
- Lead design and execution of data-driven oceanographic research focusing on physical and biogeochemical processes.
- Develop and maintain data analysis pipelines in Python and MATLAB; ensure reproducible workflows.
- Lead and collaborate on field campaigns involving CTD rosettes, ADCPs, gliders, ARGO floats, and moorings.
- Apply numerical models to interpret observations and forecast ocean states (HYCOM, MITgcm, ROMS).
- Mentor graduate students, postdocs, and early-career scientists; supervise subprojects and data sharing practices.
- Prepare grant proposals, manage project budgets, and communicate findings to diverse audiences, including policymakers and the public.
- Publish results in high-impact journals and present at conferences; contribute to WHOI’s strategic projects.
Qualification
- PhD in physical oceanography, chemical oceanography, or a closely related field; or equivalent research experience.
- Minimum 3 years post-PhD research experience with strong record of publications and data-driven results.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB; experience with R is a plus; strong data management and HPC skills.
- Hands-on experience with ocean observing systems and instruments (CTD, ARGO, ADCP, gliders, moorings).
- Experience with numerical modeling and data assimilation; familiarity with HYCOM, MITgcm, ROMS, or similar models.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to secure funding and lead collaborative teams.
- Willingness to travel for field campaigns; U.S. work authorization required.
