Location: Honolulu, Hawaii. The Pacific Marine Science Institute seeks a seasoned oceanographer to lead advanced research in physical oceanography, coastal dynamics, and data-driven modeling. You will design field campaigns, develop and apply numerical models, and translate complex ocean data into actionable insights for policy makers, industry partners, and conservation programs. This is a full-time, leadership-track role with competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to mentor junior scientists and contribute to high-impact publications.
Responsibility
- Lead planning, execution, and quality control of hydrographic surveys and field campaigns across coastal and open-ocean environments.
- Develop, calibrate, and run ocean models (e.g., ROMS, HYCOM) and data assimilation to address research questions and management needs.
- Integrate in-situ measurements, autonomous platforms, satellite remote sensing, and model outputs to produce actionable insights.
- Manage data workflows, metadata, quality control, and reproducible analysis pipelines; ensure data accessibility for collaborators.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with biogeochemists, ecologists, and engineers; contribute to grant writing and project management.
