This is a high-impact role for a seasoned scientist who thrives in multidisciplinary teams and seeks to apply science to policy and conservation.

As a Senior Oceanographer, you will design and oversee field campaigns, manage data collection and quality control, develop numerical models and data analyses, and communicate results to diverse stakeholders. You will help shape our research portfolio, mentor junior scientists, and contribute to grant writing and publication efforts.

Responsibility

  • Lead and coordinate advanced oceanographic field campaigns (CTD, ADCP, gliders, etc.) and ensure safety, quality, and timely data collection.
  • Design, implement, and quality-control data pipelines for large, heterogeneous oceanographic datasets.
  • Develop and apply physical, chemical, and biological models to interpret coastal and open-ocean processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated research products for policy makers, managers, and the public.
  • Mentor graduate students, technicians, and early-career staff; supervise field operations and safety protocols.
  • Prepare and publish results in peer-reviewed journals; present findings at conferences; contribute to grant writing and renewals.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and reporting; ensure compliance with data sharing and open-science policies.

Qualification

  • PhD in Oceanography, Physical Oceanography, Marine Science, or a closely related field; or a Master’s degree with substantial, relevant field and analysis experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in oceanographic field campaigns and data-driven analysis.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and R for data processing, visualization, and modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with oceanographic instruments (CTD rosettes, ADCPs, autonomous vehicles, hydrophones) and related software.
  • Strong background in GIS and remote sensing data integration; experience with data assimilation is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; track record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
  • Ability to lead, collaborate across disciplines, and manage multiple projects and travel for fieldwork.
  • Experience with grant writing, project management, and stakeholder engagement.
