BlueWave Oceanographic Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Oceanographer to join our interdisciplinary team in Monterey, CA. This role focuses on advanced marine research, data synthesis, and actionable insights for coastal management and climate studies. You will lead field campaigns, develop oceanographic models, and collaborate with universities, government agencies, and industry partners.

Responsibility
- Plan and execute oceanographic field campaigns using ships, autonomous vehicles, CTD casts, and moored instruments
- Design and implement robust data processing pipelines for bathymetry, hydrography, CTD, and ADCP datasets with quality control
- Develop, calibrate, and validate coastal circulation and stratification models; apply scenario analyses
- Analyze long-term time series of temperature, salinity, currents, and sea level; generate actionable reports
- Collaborate with universities, government agencies, and industry partners; present findings at conferences and publish results
- Mentor junior scientists, coordinate cross-functional teams, and help grow our marine science portfolio
- Ensure compliance with safety, sampling permits, environmental regulations, and project budgets
Qualification
- PhD in Physical Oceanography, Oceanography, or a closely related field; or MS with 5+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in ocean data analysis, hydrographic surveying (CTD, ADCP), and bathymetric mapping
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Python; experience with R; strong data visualization and statistical skills
- Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and netCDF/Grib data formats
- Familiarity with coastal/ocean models (ROMS, MITgcm) and data assimilation techniques
- Excellent written and verbal communication; track record of technical reports and publications
- Proven ability to lead projects and collaborate across teams; strong organizational and time-management skills
- U.S. work authorization; willingness to travel and participate in field campaigns
