Join Scripps Oceanography as a senior oceanographer and research scientist. This role advances our understanding of ocean dynamics through integrated field campaigns, data analysis, and modeling. You will lead interdisciplinary projects that address climate variability, circulation, and marine ecosystems, collaborating with scientists across the institution.

Responsibility
- Lead design and execution of field campaigns using CTD, ADCP, gliders, and autonomous platforms to collect high-quality oceanographic data.
- Develop, calibrate, and apply numerical models and data assimilation techniques to study ocean dynamics and forecast systems.
- Analyze multi-source datasets (in situ, remote sensing, and model output) and contribute to high-impact publications.
- Mentor graduate students and junior researchers; supervise field operations and data management procedures.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and grant writing in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Oversee instrument maintenance, QC procedures, and data stewardship to ensure reproducibility.
- Communicate findings to diverse audiences through seminars, reports, and policy briefs; represent the lab at conferences.
Qualification
- PhD in oceanography or a closely related field; postdoctoral experience is preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on research experience in physical or chemical oceanography.
- Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB; experience with R is a plus.
- Expertise with ocean observing systems (CTD, ARGO, ADCP, gliders) and data assimilation workflows.
- Proficiency with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated ability to secure funding through grants and publish in high-impact journals.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills; fluency in scientific writing and presentations.
