Join ApexPack Solutions as a Senior Packaging Engineer in Chicago, IL. We design creative, sustainable packaging solutions that protect product integrity and delight customers from warehouse to storefront.
In this role you will lead packaging design, validation, and supplier collaboration to optimize performance, cost, and environmental impact across multiple product lines.
What you will do includes translating product requirements into robust packaging concepts, conducting feasibility studies, coordinating trials, and ensuring compliance with GMP and ISO 9001 standards. You will mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibility
- Lead end to end packaging development from concept through validation and production transfer.
- Collaborate with R&D, marketing, supply chain, and suppliers to define requirements and specifications.
- Perform functional testing, shelf-life validation, and regulatory compliance checks.
- Optimize packaging for cost, material efficiency, and sustainability using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
- Manage supplier performance, audits, and technology scouting for new packaging solutions.
- Deliver scalable documentation including BOMs, drawings, and change controls.
- Support equipment and packaging line readiness for product launches and line transfers.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science.
- 5+ years of packaging design or engineering experience in consumer goods or pharmaceuticals.
- Strong knowledge of GMP, ISO 9001, and packaging regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and packaging simulation.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma and data-driven problem solving.
- Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong communication and vendor management abilities.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% (as needed).
