Job description

QuantumNova Institute is seeking a Senior Physicist to lead experimental programs in quantum materials and advanced measurement techniques. This position is based in Cambridge, MA with opportunities for collaboration across our national lab network.

As a member of our Physics Research group, you will design, execute, and analyze experiments, develop instrumentation, and mentor early-career researchers. The role combines hands-on laboratory work with opportunities to drive research strategy, assess technical risk, and contribute to grant proposals.

We offer a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and access to state-of-the-art cryogenic facilities and nanofabrication equipment. The successful candidate will publish results in high-impact journals and present at conferences.

Responsibility

  • Lead the conception, design, and execution of experiments in quantum materials and cryogenic systems.
  • Develop and maintain high-precision measurement instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyze experimental data using Python, MATLAB, and advanced statistical methods.
  • Collaborate with theorists to interpret results and publish in high-impact journals.
  • Mentor and supervise postgraduate researchers and technicians.
  • Present findings at internal and external seminars; contribute to grant proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and research governance standards.

Qualification

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in experimental condensed matter physics or quantum materials research.
  • Expertise in low-temperature cryogenics, superconductivity, advanced microscopy, or related instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in data analysis with Python, MATLAB, and LabVIEW; experience with hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Strong publication record with demonstrated conference and peer-reviewed contributions.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and mentoring skills, with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • U.S. work authorization and willingness to travel as needed.
