Job description

At ApexPack Innovations, we design award-winning product packaging for leading consumer brands. We are seeking a Senior Product Packaging Engineer to join our New York City team and drive packaging development from concept to launch.

As a packaging strategist, you will collaborate with R and D, design, sourcing, operations, and marketing to deliver packaging solutions that protect product quality, optimize cost, and advance our sustainability goals.

Perfect candidates are creative problem solvers with strong technical acumen, hands on experience with packaging materials, and a track record of delivering packaging programs on time and within budget.

Responsibility

  • Lead end to end packaging development from concept through launch across multiple product lines, ensuring alignment with timing, budget and quality targets.
  • Design innovative packaging solutions that balance aesthetics, protection, manufacturability, and cost efficiency while meeting regulatory and sustainability requirements.
  • Collaborate with R and D, manufacturing, sourcing, and marketing to ensure feasibility, scalability, and supplier readiness.
  • Plan and execute packaging testing programs including ISTA drops, cushioning, compression, seal integrity, and shelf performance; analyze data to drive improvements.
  • Prepare and maintain packaging specifications, BOMs, drawings, and change control documents; lead risk assessments and design reviews.
  • Manage vendor relationships, material selection, performance tracking, and supplier certifications to ensure supply continuity and quality.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives by reducing material usage, exploring recyclable and compostable options, and optimizing end of life outcomes.

Qualification

  • Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5 plus years of packaging design or engineering experience in consumer packaged goods, cosmetics, food, or pharma.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and familiarity with 3D packaging design and prototyping.
  • Solid understanding of packaging materials, barrier properties, and sustainability considerations within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with testing standards ISTA and regulatory documentation, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage cross functional teams in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and vendor management capabilities.
