We are seeking a Senior Product Packaging Engineer to lead packaging development from concept to production for dynamic brands.

Based in Chicago, this role collaborates with R&D, supply chain, and manufacturing teams globally. You will drive packaging strategy, material selection, and testing protocols to meet quality, cost, and sustainability targets while ensuring manufacturability.

Responsibility

  • Lead end-to-end packaging development from concept to launch, aligning with brand strategy and product requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D, marketing, sourcing, and manufacturing to define packaging concepts, materials, and specs.
  • Own packaging BOMs, cost targets, weight reductions, and sustainability goals.
  • Develop, test, and validate packaging structures through ISTA, drop, vibration, and environmental tests.
  • Partner with suppliers and converters to evaluate materials, processes, and feasibility for high-volume production.
  • Translate design intent into manufacturing-ready drawings and specifications, ensuring DFM and scale-up readiness.
  • Lead regulatory and safety compliance, including recycling, labeling, and sustainability reporting.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of packaging design and development experience for consumer goods.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging materials (paperboard, plastics, films, adhesives) and converting processes.
  • Hands-on experience with ISTA testing, ASTM standards, and packaging testing protocols.
  • Proficient CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent) and experience with BOM management.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize cost, weight, and material usage while maintaining performance.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication, project management, and supplier management skills; ability to travel up to 15%.
