Join a premium, fast-growing packaging team as a Senior Product Packaging Engineer. You will drive end-to-end packaging development for consumer products, balancing form, function, and sustainability.
Based in New York, NY, you will partner with Product, R&D, Marketing, and Supply Chain to deliver packaging solutions that protect product integrity while optimizing cost and environmental impact. You will lead feasibility studies, material evaluations, and packaging architecture decisions that scale across categories.
Responsibility
- Lead end-to-end packaging development from concept through production launch, ensuring on-time delivery and alignment with brand strategy.
- Design for manufacturability and assembly, balancing cost, performance, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with Product, R&D, Marketing, Procurement, and Operations to define packaging architecture and specifications.
- Evaluate materials (corrugate, folding carton, flexible pouch, labels) for performance, recyclability, and cost.
- Develop and maintain packaging BOMs, test plans, and validation protocols; coordinate trials and line trials.
- Partner with suppliers and contract manufacturers to qualify components and optimize supply chain reliability.
- Lead sustainability initiatives, including optimizing packaging weight, recyclability, and use of recycled content.
- Prepare technical documentation, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance (FDA/IFT, labeling, safety) when applicable.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
- 7+ years of packaging design and development experience in consumer goods or CPG industries.
- Proficiency with ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, and related CAD/CAM tooling; familiarity with CAPE or other packaging software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of materials science for packaging (corrugate, carton, flexible, labels) and sustainability best practices.
- Experience with ERP systems, PLM, and BOM management; excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to present to executives and cross-functional teams.
- Travel up to 15% may be required; self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
- Portfolio or examples of packaging design work demonstrate impact on cost, sustainability, and consumer experience.
