Job description

NovaQuant Analytics is seeking a highly motivated Senior Quantitative Researcher with a strong foundation in mathematics to join our growing team in the Cambridge area. This role focuses on building rigorous mathematical models to drive investment strategies and risk management. You will collaborate with traders, data scientists, and software engineers to translate theoretical insights into production-grade solutions.

We offer a dynamic environment, competitive compensation, and opportunities for professional growth in a company known for applying deep math to real-world finance challenges.

Responsibility

  • Develop and validate mathematical models (stochastic processes, time-series, optimization) to support pricing, trading, and risk assessment.
  • Implement efficient numerical methods and simulations in Python, R, or MATLAB; maintain production-grade code with version control and testing.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to source, clean, and integrate large datasets for model calibration and backtesting.
  • Interpret model outputs for non-technical stakeholders; clearly communicate assumptions, limitations, and results.
  • Lead model risk governance, documentation, and compliance with industry standards and internal controls.
  • Mentor junior researchers and contribute to a culture of rigorous mathematical thinking.
  • Publish findings in internal reports and, when appropriate, external papers or conference presentations.
  • Stay current with advances in quantitative methods and tools, and proactively propose innovative approaches.

Qualification

  • PhD or MS in Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or a related field with strong mathematical rigor.
  • Proven expertise in stochastic calculus, probability theory, time-series analysis, and numerical optimization.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB; experience with R and SQL is a plus; familiarity with C++ advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with financial modeling, derivatives pricing, risk metrics, and backtesting.
  • Track record of applying theory to real-world problems and delivering impact in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to cross-functional teams.
