Job description
Join the Apex Quantum Institute as a Senior Quantum Physicist in Cambridge, MA. You will lead experimental programs focused on quantum materials and cryogenic phenomena, driving discovery and collaboration across disciplines. This is a hands-on role that combines innovation, mentoring, and strategic research planning in a world-class facility.
As a leader in our research team, you will shape experimental agendas, optimize measurement techniques, and contribute to high-impact publications and grant proposals. We value curiosity, rigor, and teamwork in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
Responsibility
- Lead design and execution of quantum materials experiments using cryogenic instrumentation and low-temperature setups.
- Develop and optimize measurement techniques (transport, magnetometry, spectroscopy, and coherence measurements).
- Collaborate with theory and materials scientists to interpret results and iterate on materials synthesis and device fabrication.
- Mentor graduate students and postdocs; supervise technicians and maintain safety/compliance standards.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals; present at conferences; contribute to grant writing.
- Upgrade and maintain cryogenic facilities, data acquisition systems, and software pipelines for data analysis.
- Plan and execute independent and collaborative research programs aligned with institute goals.
Qualification
- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field, with a strong record of experimental quantum research.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with quantum materials and low-temperature physics.
- Proficiency with cryogenic systems (including dilution refrigerators) and precision low-noise measurements.
- Experience with characterization techniques such as SEM, AFM, XRD, and transport/magnetometry measurements.
- Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB; ability to develop analysis pipelines and manage data reproducibility.
- Excellent communication, writing, and collaboration skills; demonstrated track record of publications.
- Ability to secure or contribute to grant proposals; experience mentoring students is a plus.
