Job description
At AstraNova Labs, we push the boundaries of quantum physics and advanced materials to enable transformative technologies. We seek a Senior Quantum Physics Research Scientist to lead experimental design, data analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
In this role, you will design and execute high-impact experiments, develop computational models, and contribute to high-profile publications and grant proposals. You will mentor junior researchers and represent the lab at conferences.
What you’ll love: a modern, well-equipped lab, a culture of scientific excellence, competitive compensation, and strong opportunities for career growth.
Responsibility
- Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of quantum experiments, including system characterization, measurement protocols, and data acquisition.
- Develop and maintain computational models and simulations to predict experimental outcomes and interpret results.
- Collaborate with experimentalists, theorists, and engineers to design novel experiments that advance quantum information, condensed matter, or photonics research.
- Analyze large datasets using Python, MATLAB, and specialized software; present findings to multidisciplinary teams.
- Prepare and contribute to peer-reviewed publications, conference talks, and grant proposals.
- Mentor graduate students and postdocs; provide technical leadership and training on lab safety and best practices.
- Ensure rigorous documentation, instrument calibration, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Qualification
- PhD in Physics or a closely related field with a focus on quantum phenomena or experimental physics.
- Strong experimental skills, including cryogenics, optical setups, vacuum systems, low-noise instrumentation, and data acquisition.
- Proficiency in Python and MATLAB; experience with C++ is a plus.
- Experience with data analysis, statistical methods, and machine learning for physical systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication; track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams in a fast-paced research environment.
- Prior experience mentoring students or junior researchers is desirable.
