Job description

SwiftLine Logistics is seeking a proactive and strategic Senior Transportation Planner to join our Chicago team. You will lead data-driven transportation initiatives, optimize multimodal routes, and partner with cross-functional teams to drive service quality while reducing cost per mile.

As a Senior Transportation Planner you’ll influence network design, collaborate with carriers, and mentor junior planners to deliver excellence in every shipment.

Responsibility

  • Lead data-driven transportation planning, route optimization, and fleet utilization across parcel and freight operations.
  • Develop and optimize weekly and monthly transportation plans, including capacity planning and mode selection.
  • Analyze KPIs, model scenarios, and present actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and carriers to negotiate constraints, service levels, and costs.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contract performance, and service-level agreements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data visualization and predictive analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements and implement risk mitigation strategies.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation planning, logistics, or supply chain, with hands-on route optimization.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL, Excel, and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with TMS/WMS, transportation optimization software, and ERP systems.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage stakeholders; excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FMCSA, DOT) and safety standards.
  • Project management experience and ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
