Aurora Theatre Collective is seeking an experienced Stage Manager to join our vibrant NYC company. The Stage Manager will shepherd productions from rehearsal through performance, ensuring artistic integrity, safety, and seamless operations.
Location: New York, NY. This is a full-time, on-site role at our downtown theater with occasional evenings and weekends.
As a Stage Manager, you will coordinate schedules, call cues, manage backstage logistics, and serve as the primary liaison between the director, designers, cast, and crew to ensure performances run smoothly and safely.
Responsibility
- Serve as the primary liaison among directors, designers, stage crew, and performers to ensure clear communication and efficient decision-making.
- Create and maintain comprehensive rehearsal and performance schedules, call scripts, and cue sheets.
- Call all show cues (sound, lighting, and other cues) and monitor timing during rehearsals and live performances.
- Coordinate with production teams for load-in, tech rehearsals, previews, and strike, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Maintain accurate show reports, prompt copies, prop lists, and rehearsal notes for all productions.
- Oversee backstage operations during performances, including talent calls, staffing, and contingency planning.
- Collaborate with box office, front-of-house, and management to deliver a professional guest experience.
- Troubleshoot issues in real time and communicate changes to the team promptly.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Theater, Theatre Production, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of Stage Management experience in live theatre productions.
- Proven ability to manage multiple timelines, cast lists, and crews under pressure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience calling shows and using show control tools (QLab, digital mixing software, etc.) and basic technical knowledge of lighting and sound cues.
- Strong organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and proactive planning.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as productions require.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse artistic teams and maintain calm under pressure.
