BluePeak Logistics is a premier regional provider of transportation and supply chain solutions. We are seeking a proactive Transportation Operations Manager to oversee our Chicago-based operations, optimize routing, and drive service excellence for our customers.
In this role, you will lead a team of planners and coordinators, manage carrier relationships, and implement data-driven improvements that reduce costs while enhancing safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibility
- Lead day-to-day transportation operations for inbound and outbound shipments across multiple modes, ensuring on-time and accurate delivery.
- Develop and execute routing, scheduling, and load planning strategies to optimize capacity utilization and reduce freight spend.
- Manage carrier relationships, negotiate rates, monitor performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT and safety regulations; implement training programs and safety initiatives for the team.
- Monitor KPIs (on-time delivery, transit times, freight cost per unit, damage and claims, etc.) and produce actionable insights for leadership.
- Collaborate with sales, warehouse, and procurement to align operations with customer requirements and service level agreements.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cost controls; identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service quality.
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of coordinators and planners.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in transportation and logistics operations, with proven leadership responsibilities.
- Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in data-driven decision making and KPI management.
- Experience with transportation management systems (TMS) and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Deep knowledge of DOT regulations, safety practices, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to manage carriers and cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 and data visualization tools; ability to translate data into actionable strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, forecast demand, and optimize costs without sacrificing service quality.
