Private Advertiser is seeking a highly capable 2nd Officer to join our maritime team for challenging international voyages. In this role, you will be a key member of the bridge team, responsible for translating voyage orders into precise passage plans from berth to berth, maintaining safe navigation, and ensuring compliance with global maritime regulations. You will work closely with the Chief Officer to safeguard life at sea, protect cargo, and uphold the vessel's navigational integrity. Your responsibilities will include meticulous voyage planning, keeping an accurate and continuous watch, and applying best practices for collision avoidance, weather routing, and fuel efficiency. You will operate and monitor navigational equipment such as ECDIS, ARPA, radar, and GNSS, while validating data and ensuring alignment with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and other applicable conventions. The role also entails coordinating with pilots, port authorities, and the bridge team to ensure smooth operations, as well as supervising deck activities during cargo handling, mooring, and gangway management. Responsibility

  • Plan and execute voyage planning from berth to berth, ensuring safe navigation and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain and monitor bridge watch in accordance with STCW and company procedures.
  • Assist the Chief Officer with navigation, route optimization, weather routing, and collision avoidance.
  • Operate and monitor navigational equipment including ECDIS, ARPA, radar, and GNSS; validate navigational data.
  • Ensure adherence to SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, and port state control requirements.
  • Supervise deck operations during cargo handling, mooring, and ship-to-shore transfers; coordinate with crew and port authorities.
  • Lead and mentor junior officers and cadets; promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in safety drills and emergency response planning; contribute to incident investigation and reporting.

Qualification

  • Certificate of Competency as Second Officer (STCW II/4) with valid medical certificate.
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant seagoing experience as an officer; proven track record in navigation and bridge operations.
  • Strong knowledge of navigation, chart work, and voyage planning methods.
  • Proficiency with ECDIS, ARPA, radar, GMDSS, and other navigational systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities; ability to supervise and motivate crew.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance; ability to work under pressure and in diverse teams.
  • Willingness to relocate domestically or internationally as required for voyages.
  • Degree in Nautical Science, Marine Transportation, or equivalent from an approved maritime academy is preferred.
