Celestia Observatory & Education Institute is seeking a passionate Astronomy Outreach Lead to expand our public programs and education initiatives. Based in Pasadena, CA, you will collaborate with researchers, educators, and volunteers to inspire curiosity about the universe.
In this role you will design and deliver engaging programs for diverse audiences, manage outreach events, and mentor a team of volunteers and interns. You will also develop partnerships with schools and community organizations to broaden access to astronomical learning.
Responsibility
- Lead and manage public outreach programs and telescope nights
- Design age appropriate curricula and planetarium style shows
- Coordinate events with schools, clubs and community partners
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers and interns
- Collaborate with researchers to translate complex science into accessible content
- Track metrics and impact to demonstrate outcomes
Qualification
- Bachelor degree in astronomy, physics, education, or related field
- Experience in science outreach, education or public programming
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to work evenings and weekends for events
- Familiarity with telescope operation and planetarium software preferred
- Passion for diversity in STEM and community engagement
