Scanmar Maritime Services is hiring an Elec Cadet to join our shipboard team and support electrical systems across our fleet of container vessels. This entry-level opportunity is designed for ambitious engineers and cadets seeking hands-on experience in marine electrical engineering, from power distribution to automation and safety systems.

Based in Makati City, Philippines, you will work closely with licensed engineers to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot faults, and help ensure the reliability and safety of critical electrical equipment on container ships. You will gain exposure to switchboards, motors, lighting, battery systems, and control circuits while developing the discipline and standards that come with professional maritime operations. Responsibility

  • Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of shipboard electrical systems under supervision of licensed engineers.
  • Monitor electrical equipment performance and document findings; support routine inspections and servicing.
  • Assist in preventive maintenance on electrical panels, switchboards, lighting, and related systems.
  • Support testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical equipment during port calls or vessel readiness checks.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and maritime regulations; participate in safety drills and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain accurate records, spare parts inventory, and work orders using shipboard CMMS or logbooks.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to support vessel readiness and minimize downtime on container ships.

Qualification

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of shipboard electrical systems, including switchgear, motors, lighting, and power distribution.
  • Familiarity with safety standards (SOLAS/ISM) and willingness to obtain required certifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work at sea, on ships, and adapt to watch schedules and remote assignments.
  • Good communication, documentation, and computer skills; ability to use maintenance software or CMMS.
  • Proactive, safety-conscious, and physically fit for on-board duties; eager to learn and grow in maritime engineering.
