Job description

Join Elburg Shipmanagement Phils Inc. as an Electrician aboard a bulk carrier and play a critical role in keeping world-traveling vessels safe, compliant, and on schedule. Based in Manila and deployed on worldwide routes, you will be part of a dedicated engineering team responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical systems across our fleet.

As an Electrician on bulk carriers, you will work on electrical generation, distribution, control, and automation equipment that powers navigation, communication, and cargo handling systems. You will collaborate closely with engine room personnel and shore-side technical support to ensure peak vessel readiness, preventive maintenance, and prompt fault resolution. This role combines hands-on troubleshooting with adherence to international maritime standards, safety protocols, and environmental requirements.

We offer competitive compensation in USD, stable contract terms, and opportunities for professional growth within a respected global fleet. If you are a proactive professional who thrives in a dynamic, offshore environment, we would like to hear from you.

Note: This position involves shipboard deployment and rotation schedules; prior maritime electrical experience is preferred.

Responsibility

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems on bulk carrier vessels, including electrical distribution panels, lighting, motors, and control circuits.
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults using diagnostic tools, schematics, and PLCs; perform timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and test generator sets, switchboards, battery banks, and emergency power systems; ensure readiness for sea and port operations.
  • Monitor electrical safety devices, alarms, and emergency systems; participate in drills and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Document maintenance activities in shipboard logs and prepare reports for shore-side supervision; manage spare parts and inventory as required.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and assist in implementing upgrade projects for electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with engine room and other crew members to ensure overall vessel readiness and regulatory compliance (SOLAS, MARPOL, and applicable rules).
  • Adhere to safety, health, and environmental policies; participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualification

  • Valid electrical or marine electrician certification/credential suitable for engine department roles (STCW-compliant preferred).
  • Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience as a marine electrician or in a similar on-board electrical role.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems on ships, including DG sets, switchgear, motors, lighting, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient in diagnosing faults, reading schematics, and using diagnostic tools; basic computer literacy for maintenance software.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and willingness to work in offshore environments and worldwide deployments.
  • Physically fit and able to pass medical examinations; fluent in English or Filipino, with good reporting skills.
  • Willingness to undertake contract-based rotations and adapt to shipboard life and safety protocols.
