BlueWave Fisheries Institute is seeking a dedicated Fisheries Biologist to lead data-driven stock assessments and support sustainable harvest initiatives in Australian waters. This role blends fieldwork, statistics, and stakeholder collaboration to protect marine ecosystems and local fisheries.

Responsibility
- Plan and conduct field sampling and data collection for stock assessments across coastal and offshore fisheries.
- Lead data processing, QA/QC, and statistical analyses using R and Python to support population models.
- Collaborate with government agencies, industry partners, and researchers to prepare stock assessment reports and management advice.
- Coordinate acoustic surveys, age-length analyses, and catch-per-unit-effort datasets.
- Ensure compliance with permits, ethical standards, and data sharing protocols.
- Prepare technical reports, briefings, and stakeholder presentations to inform policy decisions.
- Supervise field crews and mentor junior technicians and analysts.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field; PhD preferred for senior roles.
- 3+ years of experience in fisheries biology, stock assessment, or related research.
- Strong proficiency in R and Python for statistical analysis and modeling.
- Experience with acoustic surveys, aging structures, and catch-at-length data.
- Knowledge of GIS, data management, and database systems; strong attention to data quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders and policymakers.
- Ability to work in field conditions, travel as required, and hold a valid driver’s license.
