We are seeking a forward-thinking Librarian to join our Digital Archives and Research Services team in Boston, MA. This role focuses on metadata creation, digitization projects, and high-impact research support for students, faculty, and community researchers.
As a key member of the library team, you will enhance access to our growing digital collections, implement robust metadata standards, and collaborate across departments to ensure long-term preservation and discovery.
Responsibility
- Lead the development and maintenance of the library's digital repository and digitization workflows.
- Create and enhance metadata using MARC 21, Dublin Core, and controlled vocabularies to support discovery and interoperability.
- Catalog physical and digital resources with accuracy and consistency, ensuring compliance with local, state, and national standards.
- Provide proactive reference services, information literacy instruction, and research consultations to diverse patrons.
- Collaborate with IT, Digital Initiatives, and Collections teams on digitization projects, access policies, and preservation planning.
- Develop data-driven assessment and reporting to demonstrate impact of digital collections and services.
- Advise on copyright, privacy, and access considerations for digitization and born-digital materials.
Qualification
- MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
- 2+ years of library experience with a focus on cataloging, metadata, or digital archives.
- Strong knowledge of MARC 21, RDA, Dublin Core, and metadata standards; experience with METS/ALTO is a plus.
- Experience with Digital Asset Management systems and a modern ILS (eg, Alma, Ex Libris, Koha).
- Experience with digitization workflows, digitization equipment, OCR, and quality control processes.
- Excellent research, reference, and instruction skills; strong oral and written communication abilities.
