Pacific Crest Libraries is seeking a dedicated Librarian to join our team in Seattle. The Librarian will provide reference services, manage collections, and support digital resources across physical and virtual spaces. This role emphasizes user-centered service, inclusive outreach, and data-driven collection development.
As a Librarian, you will engage with patrons at the reference desk, guide research inquiries, and assist with information literacy instruction. You will collaborate with colleagues on collection development, curation of digital resources, and programs that strengthen community access to information.
Responsibilities include interpreting cataloging standards, maintaining accurate metadata, and ensuring discoverability across the library catalog, ILS, and discovery layers while upholding privacy and ethical guidelines.
Responsibility
- Provide high-quality reference and information services at the public service desk, assisting patrons with research, navigation, and resource discovery.
- Catalog, classify, and metadata-manage new acquisitions to ensure accurate discoverability in the library catalog.
- Develop and maintain library collections, evaluating usage, user feedback, and community needs.
- Plan and deliver information literacy instruction, research workshops, and outreach to students, faculty, and community groups.
- Collaborate with faculty, schools, and community organizations to promote access to resources and lifelong learning.
- Curate digital resources, including e-books, databases, and local history materials, and optimize online access.
- Assist in collection assessment, weeding, budgeting, and policy development related to collections and access.
- Adhere to privacy, ethics, and safety standards; foster an inclusive, welcoming environment for all patrons.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in reference, cataloging, or program delivery in a library setting.
- Strong knowledge of cataloging standards (MARC 21, RDA) and classification (DDC).
- Experience with Integrated Library Systems (e.g., Koha, Alma, or similar) and discovery layers.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Experience in information literacy instruction, program planning, and outreach strategies.
- Commitment to data privacy, intellectual freedom, and ethical information access.
