Job description

The Harborview University Library seeks a proactive Librarian to join our Metadata & Digital Services team. This full-time role focuses on cataloging, metadata creation, digital collection management, and user-centered services in a modern research library setting.

Responsibility

  • Lead and perform cataloging and metadata creation for physical and digital resources using MARC 21, RDA, and Dublin Core.
  • Manage digital collections and repositories, ensuring accurate metadata and long-term preservation.
  • Collaborate on digitization projects, metadata normalization, and quality control.
  • Support reference and instruction, delivering information literacy sessions and research consultations.
  • Maintain and optimize library systems, including ILS, discovery tools, and digital asset management platforms.
  • Develop and document metadata workflows, standards, and best practices for the library team.

Qualification

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
  • 2+ years of cataloging/metadata experience in an academic or research library.
  • Strong knowledge of MARC 21, RDA, Dublin Core, and authority control; familiarity with schema and ontologies for digital resources.
  • Experience with library management systems (e.g., Alma/Primo, Koha, or similar) and digital repositories (DSpace, ArchivesSpace, CONTENTdm).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; demonstrated instruction and reference service skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and project-management abilities; ability to work in cross-functional teams.
