Seattle Public Library is seeking a dynamic Librarian to join our Public Services team. You will connect patrons with reliable information, curate engaging collections, and support innovative digital services.
As a Librarian, you will provide expert reference assistance, guide information literacy initiatives, and collaborate across departments to strengthen services for a diverse city. This role emphasizes professional growth, community engagement, and service excellence.
Responsibility
- Provide expert reference and information services to patrons in person, by phone, and online.
- Lead collection development, curation, and deselection to meet community needs.
- Apply cataloging standards (MARC21, RDA/AACR2) and manage metadata for print and digital resources.
- Support digital services, e-resources, and remote access platforms.
- Design and deliver information literacy instruction and program sessions for diverse users.
- Collaborate with teams on outreach, partnerships, and community programs.
- Monitor service metrics, prepare reports, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program (MLIS preferred).
- Professional Librarian certification or eligibility where required by state law.
- Strong knowledge of cataloging standards (MARC21, RDA/AACR2) and subject analysis (LC headings).
- Experience with reference services and information literacy instruction.
- Proficiency with library management systems (e.g., Sierra/Innovative, Alma, or similar), and discovery tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
