Job description

Beacon City Public Library is seeking a dynamic Librarian to join our Special Collections and Reference team. This full-time role blends expert cataloging, archival stewardship, and proactive user support in a modern urban library environment.

As a librarian on our team, you will contribute to the stewardship of our rare materials, support researchers, and collaborate across departments to advance access to information for diverse communities.

Responsibility

  • Lead cataloging and metadata creation for special collections using MARC21, RDA, and local provenance standards.
  • Oversee preservation, arrangement, and description of fragile manuscripts, maps, photographs, and digital archives.
  • Provide reference services at the information desk and deliver information literacy instruction to patrons and classes.
  • Coordinate digitization projects and contribute to the library's discovery layer enhancements.
  • Manage acquisitions, deselection, and collection development in line with policy and community needs.
  • Administer interlibrary loan workflows and respond to patron requests with timely, accurate information.
  • Supervise and mentor student workers and volunteers; support staff training and professional development.

Qualification

  • Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of professional library experience, with hands-on work in special collections or archives preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of archival standards, metadata schemas, and cataloging practices (MARC, RDA, DCRM).
  • Experience with a library management system and digitization workflows (e.g., Alma/Sierra/Koha, CONTENTdm, or similar).
  • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to work with diverse patron groups.
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills; demonstrated ability to teach and facilitate information literacy.
