Join Apex OceanTech as a Maritime Navigation Specialist in Singapore. You will lead safe, compliant navigation operations across global shipping lanes, leveraging state-of-the-art ECDIS and ARPA systems. This role blends expert navigation practice with advanced technology to optimize voyage efficiency and safety.
As a senior member of our Navigation & Systems team, you will drive performance, mentor junior officers, and collaborate with ship crews, port authorities, and maritime regulators to ensure top-tier navigational outcomes.
Responsibility
- Lead voyage planning and dynamic routing using ECDIS, ARPA, AIS, and ENC data to optimize safety and efficiency.
- Monitor real-time navigation standards, weather, tides, traffic, and threat assessments; issue timely advisories to bridge teams.
- Develop, implement, and audit standard operating procedures for navigation and bridge resource management.
- Coordinate with fleet operations for incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Provide advanced training on navigation systems, software, and regulatory compliance to officers and seafarers.
- Support new vessel introductions with system integration, testing, and acceptance.
- Stay current with SOLAS, COLREGS, IMO guidance, and local port state control requirements.
- Collaborate with IT and maritime authorities to optimize data exchange and voyage optimization analytics.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Navigation, Nautical Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of coastal/open-ocean navigation experience or 3+ years in navigation systems engineering.
- Proven proficiency with ECDIS (type-approved), ARPA radar, AIS, and radar interpretation.
- Strong knowledge of COLREGS, SOLAS, and IMO navigation requirements; relevant certifications (STCW) up to Chief Officer level.
- Experience with voyage planning platforms (NAPA Voyager, Nobeltec, QPS QINSY) and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, decision-making, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
- Flexibility to travel and work across time zones as needed; fluent English required.
