BlueHarbor Maritime Technologies is seeking a seasoned Maritime Navigation Specialist to join our Houston operations. This role blends state-of-the-art navigation systems, expert voyage planning, and safety leadership to optimize port calls and voyage efficiency.
You will work with our integrated navigation platform, delivering accurate route optimization, real-time vessel tracking, and compliant operations across global routes. This is a hands-on role for a proactive navigator who thrives in a fast-paced maritime environment.
Responsibility
- Develop and optimize safe, cost-efficient voyage routes utilizing ECDIS, ARPA, AIS and weather routing tools.
- Monitor real-time vessel positions, ETA updates, and port congestion to inform bridge teams and port agents.
- Coordinate with fleet operations, pilot stations, and tugs to ensure safe maneuvering in port and anchorage areas.
- Ensure compliance with SOLAS, COLREGs, ISM/ISPS, and applicable national regulations; maintain navigation and safety documentation.
- Lead incident analysis and root-cause investigations related to navigational events; implement corrective actions.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior navigators and operations staff on navigation best practices and system usage.
- Collaborate with weather forecasting, port authorities, and maritime safety teams to optimize scheduling and risk management.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to advance navigation technology adoption and data-driven decision making.
Qualification
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science, Marine Transportation, or related field; advanced navigation certifications preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional navigation experience in shipping, offshore, or port operations.
- Valid STCW Certification (OOW/ECDIS/ARPA, Master or Officer of the Watch as applicable).
- Proficiency with ECDIS, ARPA, AIS, voyage planning software, weather routing, and integrated bridge systems.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills; ability to operate under pressure.
- Fluent in English; additional languages a plus; willingness to support 24/7 operations as needed.
- Experience with incident investigation and safety management systems; strong knowledge of COLREGs and SOLAS.
- Willingness to relocate or work onshore in Houston; eligibility to work in the United States.
