We are seeking a highly skilled Second Engineer to join Private Advertiser on a container ship operating in the feeder trade. This role is based in Manila City, Metro Manila, Philippines, and offers a challenging and rewarding career for experienced marine engineers who thrive in a dynamic shipping environment. The successful candidate will be a core member of the engine department, responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer and ensuring reliable propulsion and auxiliary systems onboard.
As Second Engineer, you will supervise engine-room operations, lead preventive maintenance, monitor performance, and coordinate repairs with vendors and crew. You will manage spare parts inventory, maintain accurate logbooks, and ensure strict adherence to international regulations such as SOLAS, MARPOL, and the ISM Code. This position requires strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively on long voyages with multinational crews.

Responsibility
- Supervise engine-room operations and support the Chief Engineer in daily duties to maintain safe and efficient vessel performance.
- Lead preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair planning for main propulsion, generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor engine performance, fuel efficiency, boiler systems (if applicable), and perform corrective actions as needed.
- Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and logistics to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, compliance records, and ensure readiness for inspections and surveys.
- Enforce safety policies, conduct drills, and ensure a high standard of crew competency and training.
- Collaborate with officers and shore-side teams to support voyage planning, ballast water management, and environmental compliance.
- Assist in emergency response and incident investigations as part of the engine department.
Qualification
- Certificate of Competency as Second Engineer or equivalent, recognized by the relevant maritime authority.
- Valid STCW endorsements, including Proficiency in Survival Craft and Fire-Fighting, Medical First Aid, and security awareness.
- Minimum 3 years of shipboard experience as an engineer, with container vessel exposure preferred.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, propulsion plants, power generation, and associated auxiliary systems.
- Proven leadership and communication skills; ability to work under pressure and supervise a multi-national crew.
- Proficiency with shipboard computer systems, engine monitoring software, and maintenance planning tools.
- Willingness to relocate and undertake long voyages; adaptability to challenging sea conditions.
