Job description

Hong Seng Assembly is seeking a skilled Mechanic to keep our fleet of heavy vehicles operating at peak performance. This full-time position is based in Skudai, Johor, where you'll work in a modern workshop supporting manufacturing, logistics, and onsite operations.

As a Mechanic, you will diagnose, repair, and overhaul diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulic systems. You’ll perform routine preventive maintenance, conduct safety inspections, and respond quickly to unplanned breakdowns to minimize downtime and production impact. You will rely on a blend of hands-on expertise and diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults, consult OEM manuals, and implement durable, quality fixes that stand up to daily wear.

You will document service activities, manage parts requests, and maintain inventory in a clean, organized workshop that meets 5S standards. Responsibility

  • Perform preventive maintenance on a fleet of heavy vehicles and equipment to ensure reliability and safety.
  • Diagnose faults and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using diagnostic tools and OEM manuals.
  • Repair or replace worn components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and suspension.
  • Overhaul major subsystems and conduct road tests to verify repair quality and performance.
  • Maintain accurate service records, manage parts requests, and uphold inventory in a clean, organized workshop.
  • Collaborate with production teams and safety officers to schedule maintenance and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Follow company policies and safety standards, contributing to a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

Qualification

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in heavy vehicles or manufacturing environments.
  • Diploma or technical certificate in Automotive, Diesel Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, brakes, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Proficient with diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and OEM repair manuals.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and service bulletins; strong problem-solving skills.
  • Safety-conscious with an ability to work in a fast-paced workshop and adhere to 5S principles.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills are a plus; willingness to learn and grow with the team.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and a proactive attitude toward maintenance planning.
