Join Boston Public Library as a Metadata Librarian and play a pivotal role in shaping discovery across digital collections. You will lead metadata quality, schema selection, and cataloging workflows that connect readers with information they need.

Responsibility
- Lead creation, normalization, and quality control of metadata using MARC 21, Dublin Core, MODS, and RDA across physical and digital collections.
- Oversee cataloging workflows within the library system (e.g., Alma/Primo, SirsiDynix) and digital repository platforms.
- Collaborate with digitization, preservation, and IT teams to implement metadata standards and ensure data integrity.
- Develop and maintain authority files, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies to ensure consistent discovery.
- Support discovery and accessibility initiatives, including OAI-PMH exposure and linked data projects.
- Monitor metadata quality metrics, generate reports, and recommend process improvements.
Qualification
- MLIS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program; minimum master's degree in Library Science preferred.
- 3+ years of cataloging/metadata experience in a library setting, with digital collection experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of MARC 21, Dublin Core, RDA, MODS, and authority control practices.
- Experience with digital asset management and repository platforms (e.g., DSpace, Islandora, Samvera) or ILS systems (e.g., Alma/Primo, Ex Libris).
- Ability to work across teams, excellent attention to detail, and strong data quality mindset.
