Join the Metropolis Museum of History as the Museum Operations Manager. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee daily operations, facilities, safety, and visitor experience while collaborating with curatorial, education, development, and marketing teams to deliver world-class programs.
We seek a proactive, data-driven leader who can optimize processes, manage budgets, and elevate accessibility and inclusion for diverse audiences.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily museum operations, facilities, security, and visitor services to ensure a seamless day-to-day experience.
- Lead safety, risk management, accessibility, and emergency preparedness across all departments.
- Develop and manage the annual operations budget, procurement, vendor contracts, and facilities maintenance plans.
- Collaborate with Curatorial, Education, Development, and Marketing teams to plan and execute exhibitions and public programs.
- Recruit, train, and supervise operations staff and volunteers; implement performance metrics.
- Implement data-driven improvements to visitor flow, accessibility, and audience development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with museum standards, professional ethics, and regulatory requirements.
- Advise on capital projects and long-term plans to maintain and upgrade facilities and collections access.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Public Administration, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in museum operations, facilities, security, or visitor services; leadership experience required.
- Strong project management, budgeting, and vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of collections handling, preservation, and safety standards; familiarity with AAM guidelines is a plus.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and communicate with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency with museum management software and MS Office; data analytics aptitude is a plus.
- Flexible schedule including weekends and evenings for special events.
